Vital New Quality Data on Hospital Readmission Rates Available on Hospital Compare

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is pleased to provide the following information received from the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA), of which ANA is a partner:
On July 9th, released for the first time on Hospital Compare Web site(www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov) are hospital readmission rates for Medicare patients with heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. This vital new quality information for health care consumers, clinicians and hospitals expands information offered by CMS and supported by the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) – a broad working group of hospital groups, consumer representatives, physician and nursing organizations, employers and payers, oversight organizations and government agencies dedicated to improving health care quality and making useful and understandable information about hospital quality available to the public.
Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Health and Human Services, and other members of the Hospital Quality Alliance: Improving Care Through Information (HQA). The information on the web site comes from hospitals that have agreed to submit quality information for Hospital Compare to make public.
