• Published articles with geriatric content in Focus, the association's newsletter, including:
  • Nurses Play a Vital Role in Protecting Elderly Patients from Medication Errors
  • DNA Awarded Nurse Competence Grant for Geriatric Care
• Published articles with geriatric content in Dermatology Nursing Journal, including selections from the Hartford Institute "Try This: Best Practices in the Care of Older Adults" series such as:

• Offered the following presentations related to geriatric issues at the DNA National Conventions:
  • A Guide for Dermatology Nurses (2002)
  • Ethical Issues in Geriatric Care (2003)
  • Women's Health Initiative: Research Found Skin Concerns (2003)
  • Assessing Changes in Aging Skin (2004)
  • A Practical Approach to the Patient with Aging Skin: Interventions for Prevention and Treatment of Skin Conditions and Lesions (2005)

Special Interest Groups

• Charged each of the 13 DNA clinical focus groups to include content about aging and geriatric issues in their annual discussions
• At 2005 DNA conference, Wound Care Special Interest Group spent their discussion time networking on their Elderly patients with wounds and the special challenges they present

Education Modules, Programs and Learning Tools

• Developed a CD-ROM version of the "Assessment Changes in Aging Client" session for dissemination to DNA members

Awards

• DNA offers a Nurse Competence in Aging Award to recognize active DNA members whose professional practice and achievements best exemplify the collaborative goals and objectives of the Dermatology Nurses' Association and the Nurse Competence in Aging initiative. This award also recognizes nurses who demonstrates a sustained commitment to the provision of nursing care for older adults.
