Publications and Position Statement

  • Dedicated an entire issue of SCI Nursing journal to the topic of aging, including an editorial on aging, three feature articles on aging, and two book reviews related to aging.
  • Premiered new Column in SCI Nursing "Aging with SCI." This column is one means of disseminating information regarding aging issues to our membership.
  • Published the "Try This" series in "pull out" format for members to be able to pull out and use as a desktop reference. This will be done in each subsequent publication.

Presentations, Workshops, and Seminars

  • Dedicated a portion of the 2002 annual AASCIN conference to the topic of aging with SCI, including a general assembly speaker on "The Aging Process and SCI."
  • Dedicated a portion of the 2005 Annual AASCIN Educational Conference to the topic of aging with SCI, including a general assembly speaker on "Delirium, Depression, and Dementia."
  • Aging Award was presented at the 2005 AASCIN Annual Conference.

Special Interest Groups

  • Established a formal geriatric special interest group (SIG) in 2002. The SIG meets at the annual AASCIN conference and identifies useful geriatric Web sites to link to from the AASCIN Web site.
  • The Geriatric Special Interest Group has evolved into a new AASCIN standing committee "Aging Issues Committee" which began meeting at the annual conference in September 2005.

Education Modules, Programs, and Learning Tools

  • Web Board implemented this winter to allow theme-based discussions among members.

Awards
Cathleen King is the Award Recipient for the SCI Nurse Competence in Aging Award and the $500 Geriatric Certification Scholarship.

Laureen G. Doloresco is the recipient of the award for the Best Article of the Year on Aging.
