If your association is not already an ANA-SNAPG, contact your association president or executive director and the head of the Geriatric Special Interest Group (if applicable) and encourage them to apply for grant funding!
Present the below ideas to your association to initiate a conversation about potential ANA-SNAPG projects:
Creating a permanent geriatric structure within the organization (geriatric special interest group, task force, work group, etc.) dedicated to care of older adults
Appointing a Board liaison to the geriatric special interest group
Including care of older adults in association mission/strategic plan
Incorporating geriatrics into association scopes and standards
Creating/revising core geriatric materials to address care of older adults in the specialty practice
Developing geriatric competencies
Generating and disseminating position papers related to care of older adults and the specialty practice
Encouraging ANCC gerontological nursing certification examination in addition to the association’s specialty certification
Publishing geriatric content in association journals, newsletters/e-newsletters
Offering geriatric-related pre-conferences and workshops at annual meetings
Offering a Nurse Competence in Aging Award to a member(s) of the association
Fostering strategic partnerships with interdisciplinary specialty associations
